BRUNY ISLAND | LOCATION

Bruny Island has no public transport, so you will need to bring your own car or hire. AVIS, Europcar, Hertz, Thrifty, Bargain Rental Cars, SIXT, East Coast Car Rentals, and Budget all hire vehicles in Hobart and this can be arranged in advance or at the airport. Europcar has some caveats about their vehicles on unsealed roads. Whilst Bruny’s roads are now mostly sealed, best you enquire with that regard...

bruny island ferry

Bruny Island is located on the southeast corner of Tasmania. The island’s ferry service is operated by Sealink Bruny Island and departs from the seaside township of Kettering 40 minutes south of Hobart. Please allow extra time to purchase the bulk of your provisions on the way. Once you've arrived and have established your time of departure and place in the cue, grab a very quick coffee at the Bruny Island Gateway Visitor Centre and Cafe, and pick up a free island map. The ferry carries passengers and vehicles daily and does quick turnarounds. During high season service may shuttle outside of the normal schedule due to increased island traffic. A supplementary vessel operating allows for additional sailings during peak season. The journey takes approximately 15 minutes with the possibility of dolphin sightings and of course people watching. Once you reach the other side, take your watch off, throw your mobile phone out the window, because at last you're on beautiful Bruny Island!
