Bruny Island has no public transport, so you will need to bring your own car or hire a car. Europcar, Hertz, Thrifty and Budget all hire cars in Hobart and this can be arranged in advance or at the airport.  AVIS and Europcar also operate in Tasmania, however they do not currently allow their vehicles to travel to Bruny Island.  We'll send additional guest info following your reservation.

bruny island ferry

Bruny Island is located on the southeast corner of Tasmania. The Bruny Island Ferry, 'Mirambeena', departs from the seaside township of Kettering 30-40 minutes south of Hobart. Please allow extra time to purchase your provisions on the way. Once you've arrived and have established your time of departure and place in the cue, enjoy a coffee at Mermaid Cafe and pick up a free island map.  The ferry carries passengers and vehicles departing ten times daily. During high season 'Mirambeena' shuttles outside of her normal schedule due to increased island traffic.  The 'Bowen' is a supplementary vessel operating from 01 November till 30 March allowing for additional sailings during peak season. No booking is required, please have correct fare in cash, arrive at ferry terminal, tender your fare at the kiosk and drive on.  The journey takes approximately 20 minutes with dolphin sightings a possibility from the top deck. Once you reach the other side, take your watch off, throw your mobile phone out the window, because at last you're on beautiful Bruny Island!
